What We Do

"To read is to empower, To empower is to write, To write is to influence, To Influence is to change, To change is to live."
~ Jane Evershed ~

The quote above says all that Books To Read hopes to achieve. Through the transformative power of knowledge captured in books, we hope to provide the necessary tools to children so that they can make educated decisions about their life and become the necessary changemakers.

By supplying schools and libraries with books we want to see higher literacy rates amongst students, better academic performance in schools, and greater success amongst people. We can do our part to make this happen with the programs that we have:

Book Projects - We collect new and unused books in good conditions and supply them to target schools in beneficiary countries where there is an acute lack of such educational resources.
Books to Read seeks to address the issue of literacy by supplying the necessary books to communities where poverty, ethnicity, or other social and cultural barriers put children at a significant educational disadvantage. We achieve this by running book projects that begins with a target beneficiary in mind, plans to collect the needed number of books and attempts this by working together with a dedicated book project team.

Our objectives are simple – we want to:

  • Increase access and use of educational resources for school and/or community members

  • Increase literacy awareness in schools and/or communities

Our flagship program, Project SAIL, has supplied more than 13,000 books within first year of our existence.

SAIL

Our flagship book project named Project Singapore Africa Initiative for Learning (SAIL) initially aimed to collect 1,000 books for the schools kids in the schools of Zambia and Tanzania. However, we surpassed even our wildest expectations and collected 13,000 books.

We chose Africa as our focus and primarily Tanzania and Zambia as this countries has one of the world’s lowest literacy rates and high poverty levels.
